Fred – Age 67 – Lost 80 Pounds
I have counted calories, fats and kept a food journal for most of the last 18 years. I have attended two courses at Kaiser Hospital (“A New ; Healthier You”, “Advanced Weight Management”), been a member of Weight Watchers, and taken a 4 week course at Optimal Fitness Center on Metabolic Typing. I have read and tried more diet books than you can shake a stick at. I work out avidly. According to a plan designed by my personal trainer, I lift weights and do a spin class or swim 1 mile 3 times a week. Three of the remaining days, I hike along the reservoir 12 miles per day.
Despite all my efforts, my weight has yo-yoed between 220 pounds and 290 pounds. Last July, I overheard a woman describe how she easily lost 12 lbs on her Jumpstart diet plan. As soon as I got home and checked out the website, I down loaded the application and made an appointment.
My first visit was Aug. 1, 2008. That morning I weighed 260 pounds. I then started the Acute Weight Loss Phase. I was given a 3″ by 6″ booklet to keep track of my protein, carbohydrates, water, dairy, medication and exercise. This form of record keeping is simpler than counting calories or journaling points like Weight Watchers recommends.
Jumpstart Medicine supplies me with an appetite suppressant called Phentermine. This medicine works miracles in controlling my hunger all day. It is as effective as the patch was in controlling tobacco withdrawal.
By September 1st, my weight had dropped to 234 a loss of 26 pounds in one month. I could hardly believe it. Today, January 24, 2009, my weight is down to 184 pounds only about 30 pounds from my goal of 154. My
wife and I eat more at home – buying only organic chicken, wild salmon, halibut, cod, and Chilean sea bass. We eat much healthier food and can control our food choices and the amount of oil we use, and at fraction of the cost of eating out. I will always be grateful to our Jumpstart doctor and all of his employees for helping me make my dreams come true.
